Abstract Against the background of successful right-wing populist movements in recent years, a question arises as to whether democratic political culture remains stable Europe’s democracies. The EVS 2017 confirms that high level legitimacy is still attached democracy, but there are differences support for current system. In Eastern Europe, we find strong openness alternative anti-democratic systems, which helps populists gain influence and power. Prejudice provides bridge between religion. While socially engaged believers pro-democratic, fundamentalist have an elective affinity with beliefs.
